Kenya is a priority partner country for German and international development cooperation in East Africa. GTZ has been active in Kenya on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) since 1975.
The GTZ Health Sector Programme held its annual operational planning workshop on 27th and 28th January 2010 at the Lenana Conference Centre in Nairobi.
The first meeting of the Health Care Financing Working Group (HFWG) this year was held on the 28th January 2010 at Afya House, with Prof. James Ole Kiyiapi in the chair.
In response to the post election violence and driven by the desire to fight the root causes of Gender Based Violence(GBV) in Kenya, the BMZ has pledged an additional 3 million Euro for specific access to justice measures targeting GBV issues.
Considerable progress has been made in the planning of the DFID funded and GTZ managed pilot introduction of the Health Financing Strategy.
The GTZ Health Sector Programme organised and participated in the GTZ Working Group on Health Financing and Social Protection meeting that was held on January 21 and 22, 2010 at the GTZ Country offices in Nairobi.

GTZ Health sector programme in Kenya is actively participating in the eHealth initiatives that are going on in the Kenyan Health sector.
The GDC/GTZ participated in the first Development Partners in Health in Kenya meeting that was held on 14th January 2010.
The Good Governance Support Project (GoGo), under the lead of Katja Schemmann, is currently (04.01.2010- 19.02.2010) on a mission regarding an additional project component – Gender Based Violence (GBV) – Access to Justice.
