GTZ Strengthening Internal Monitoring Capacity

Developing the capacity of partners and of our own staff is one of the key principles of GTZ- Kenya Health Sector Programme. June till July 2010 our Monitoring Officer attended an international training programme at the AMREF Directorate of Capacity Building.  The training aimed to equip the participants with monitoring and evaluation concepts and tools for concrete application in their work. Participants were drawn from around the globe; Namibia, Italy, Burundi, Nigeria, Liberia, Tanzania, Somalia, Cameroon, Sudan, Kenya, and from diverse professions; Doctors, Nurses, Clinical Officers, statisticians, Lawyers, Journalist, Trainers, Administrators and Development Workers- totaling to 48 participants. The trainers took participants through the basics of M&E, Data collection and analysis, Result Based Monitoring, Change/Impact Monitoring and the M&E Framework Formulation. Sessions were both theoretical and practical including a field visit to a program in Machakos, a real life evaluation of a broad based programme targeting Widows, Orphaned and Vulnerable Children, and the Youth with programs in PMTCT, Income Generation Activities and Behaviour Change. Key take home for participants was rounded Monitoring and Evaluation capabilities founded on simple but clear principles that emphasize:-

  • Monitoring
  • Participatory approach
  • Results

AMREF has access to over 16000 Online Journals and has a well stocked Modern Library that can be of great benefit to the Health Sector Organizations upon subscription for purpose of Research and continued Education.
